Chapter 173: Smashing Through With My Cat
Chapter 173: Smashing Through With My Cat
I listened to Kris’s story as we moved through the tunnels quietly.
I knew about his history as the last surviving member of his family but hearing him recount the events hit way harder.
The only thing was that he was telling the entire story with an air of indifference, almost like he was telling the story of someone else instead of himself so it felt a little surreal.
"And that’s when I decided to join as a Guardian for you, Master~" He finished as a matter of factly.
I raised an eyebrow at him, "And how are you holding up now?"
He turned to shoot me a genuine smile, "I feel great actually! I know it might sound like it’s all doom and gloom but I’ve already gotten over it. I have to live for the future after all. My family sacrificed themselves to give everyone else a future, so if I were to waste it, that would not be honouring their memory. What I should do is to live this life that they have given me to the best of my abilities and experience what they could not in their place. So that when I finally pass, I would be able to face them with dignity~"
That’s a surprise... I didn’t expect him to have already thought that far.
To be honest, I had thought that he might actually be self-destructive and might just be hiding all his pain and grief under his usual happy go lucky attitude and in reality, he was actually looking to die by fighting the Anomalies.
Guess he’s a stronger person than I thought.
I nodded at him, "If you need anything..."
He chuckled, "Ahahaha~ Don’t worry, I have decided to follow you now, Master. That’s why... I will be depending on you to take care of me, ok?"
He struck a cutesy pose where he stuck his tongue out while making a peace sign with both his hands.
I couldn’t help but grin back at him, "Sure, I’ll make sure to take good care of you, Kris."
I was only just joking around with him so I didn’t expect to see him suddenly jump towards me, his eyes sparkling in anticipation.
"Really?! Do you mean it, Master?! No take backs, alright?!"
Well... I mean... It’s not like I plan to abandon him if that was what he was worried about. They’ve already chosen to support me as my Guardians so the least I could do was to support them as their Mortal God.
Besides... This might sound a little crude but their powers are also quite useful to me and I’m not sure if I would lose access to them if they were to stop being my Guardians.
I don’t think I would but I’d like for them to be close to me anyway, especially since I know that I could still strengthen their power after I presumably grow closer to them.
I reached out and patted the catboy on the head, "Don’t worry, I don’t intend to let you go anywhere either."
He squirmed underneath my head patting, letting out cute purring sounds as I did so.
Damn... Seriously, are you sure you’re actually a guy? Because I’m starting to have my doubts.
Right then, we reached the former Bunarf colony entrance and climbed through it without meeting a single Anomaly so far.
We then reached the chasm that spiralled down to the bottom of the colony and both of us stood at the top looking down over the railing.
I turned to make sure Kris was ready before I jumped over the ledge to free fall down towards the ground below.
Both of us used his gravity manipulation skill to slow down and touch our feet down on the ground softly.
Not bad.
We went over to where the Bunarfs had kept their water pumps and found that there was now a hole in the water cavern place that wasn’t there before.
That must be where the Bunarfs were expanding to until their scanners supposedly picked up the presence of Anomalies from the direction of where they wanted to expand to, causing them to temporarily abandon their expansion.
I led the way and pulled out my sword, just in case we got attacked and I needed a weapon to deal with our attacker.
Kris also did the same with his greatsword and we proceeded to the new area cautiously, keeping an eye out for ambushes, especially from the ceiling.
As we got closer, I felt a different smell waft through the air and paused, the smell akin to sulfur and heat.
"Did you... Smell that?" I asked aloud, sniffing the air carefully.
"Smells like sulfur..." Kris answered almost immediately, his gaze locked onto a certain point on the wall.
I’m guessing that’s where the smell was coming from and nodded at him to move aside, prompting him to step back while I stood in front of that part of the wall.
I raised up my sword and made sure no one was directly behind me before swinging it down with all my strength, smashing my sword into the wall while it was coated with a layer of my mana.
The section of the wall immediately exploded open, parts of it cracking and breaking apart from the single smash.
Appearing in that hole were Anomalies that had been hiding in that space and they immediately turned towards us as we appeared to start shambling over.
Seems like we’ve unleashed a crowd of them that had been stuck behind the wall for who knows how long?
I didn’t even hesitate as I pulled the sword back and activated Jia Lian’s ability again to coat the blade with a layer of energy to sharpen its edge once more.
I swung the newly buffed sword at the first Anomaly that managed to reach me and felt the blade cleave through the rock Anomaly without even stopping, separating its body into two.
As my sword completed its swing, it also sent a gale of compressed air forward, blasting through a crowd of the Anomalies that had been standing behind the first one.
However, there were more of them and the space I cleared was almost immediately filled up again as more of them poured in through the gaps between their dead comrades.
I should not hold back here...
"Kris!" I called out to him.
He did not hesitate and leapt up into the air and spun himself like a wheel to charge up his momentum before he shot towards the crowd of Anomalies after altering his gravity.
The catboy smashed down on top of the crowd of Anomalies, his greatsword crashing down like a meteor and sending out a shockwave in front of him that blasted the entire crowd of Anomalies back.
Hmm... Is it just me or did he get stronger? I didn’t even use that purple smoke to buff him either so he definitely got stronger.
And umm... Because he’s wearing a skirt, it got flipped up when he did that and I got a very clear view of his ass thrusting out towards me when he smashed his sword into the ground.
I’m going to have to get used to this, don’t I?
While he had bought me that space, I summoned two of my floating arms above me in their gauntlet forms, the arms assembling themselves out of light to fully appear above me.
Now for something new I wanted to try...
Could I use my other skills through these arms as well?
I held them out to point their palms at the Anomalies and concentrated for a moment, only for electrical sparks to appear around them, an indicator of Olivia’s skill being activated.
Nice.
"Kris! Come back!"
"Nyaaa! Yes Master!!"
Did he just say ’nyaa’?
Whatever, I can’t lose focus right now.
I concentrated on Olivia’s skill and shot out a bolt of lightning from each of my hands including the floating arms, causing a total of four lightning bolts to crash into the crowd of Anomalies.
Almost the entire crowd got blown away from just that alone and I realised something else...
The lightning that came out from my floating arms was bigger than the ones that came out from my normal arms?
Is it because they are bigger in size? I wonder...
The remaining Anomalies started charging towards us recklessly, probably figuring out that they were not able to beat us with the swarm tactics earlier and just decided to throw themselves at us in their last moments.
Hmm... Could I do this?
I tried to use Jia Lian’s ability on the arms and, surprisingly, a blue layer appeared around the arm I tried to activate it on.
Huh... So they could also be used to activate this? This is seriously overpowered...
And to demonstrate that...
I slammed that single fist down on the ground in front of me while it was being wrapped up in that blue glow.
The moment the fist hit the ground, the air around it also came crashing down and the rest of the Anomalies that had been left standing were suddenly smashed into the ground in a giant crater in front of me, completely wiping them out.
That’s cool.
