Unrivaled Soldier in the City

Chapter 580: Encounter with Nameless Again

Chapter 580: Encounter with Nameless Again

"Forget about him. We’ll just see what he does. If he wants to court death, I’ll be happy to oblige," Lin Kuang said lightly, a faint murderous intent flashing in his eyes.

Hearing this, Mu Wan looked at Lin Kuang with a helpless expression. Having grown up with him, she knew he was as stubborn as a mule. When he set his mind on something, no one could stop him.

"Alright, but you need to be careful. After all, Bai Longming has an Ancient Martial Arts family backing him," Mu Wan said, a headache beginning to form.

"Yeah, don’t worry. With you all here, how could I bear to die?" Lin Kuang said with a grin, showing no sign of worry.

Seeing this, Mu Wan rubbed her aching temples. Talking to this guy is infuriating...

Driving along, the two of them eventually arrived at West Lake.

By now, it was nearly nine in the morning. West Lake was bustling with people—mostly tourists, along with some elderly folks who had just finished their morning exercises.

Looking at the famously beautiful West Lake before him, Lin Kuang couldn’t help but feel moved. Hearing about a place and seeing it for yourself were two completely different things. Only by standing on the banks of West Lake could one truly appreciate its gentle beauty and tranquility.

When the wind picked up, however, the lake seemed to take on an untamed wildness. This bizarre contrast didn’t feel out of place; on the contrary, it felt like an intrinsic part of West Lake’s character. The feeling was heightened by the sight of countless flowers blooming along the shore, as if vying for attention. It was an experience one could only truly understand by being there.

"So this is the beauty of West Lake? It really is incredible," Lin Kuang murmured, gazing at the lake’s mirror-like surface.

"Yes, West Lake is indeed wonderful. And the improvement in your strength has also been quite impressive. To be honest, it’s quite surprising," a voice slowly spoke up after Lin Kuang finished.

Hearing this, Lin Kuang froze. The voice was both familiar and strange.

He quickly spun around, and his eyes fell upon a middle-aged man.

At the sight of him, Lin Kuang’s pupils contracted sharply. This was none other than the Nameless Old Man!

"Nameless Old Man? What are you doing here?" Lin Kuang asked, watching him warily as he moved to shield Mu Wan behind him.

Although the Nameless Old Man had never done anything to harm him and had always been amicable during their encounters, Lin Kuang remained instinctively cautious. He had a persistent feeling that the old man was not as simple as he appeared. After all, in this world, there is no such thing as baseless kindness or causeless hatred. Why would the Nameless Old Man be so good to him if he didn’t have some ulterior motive?

Seeing Lin Kuang’s guarded posture, the Nameless Old Man didn’t seem to mind. A calm smile remained on his face.

"I came because I have something to tell you. The heir to the Slash Path Sword has descended from the mountain. If nothing unexpected happens, he will arrive in Hangcheng today," the Nameless Old Man said with a smile.

Upon hearing this, Lin Kuang’s expression changed. The heir to the Slash Path Sword had long been a weight on his mind. The Nameless Old Man had told him that he wouldn’t stand a chance of victory unless he could open the Sixth Gate of the Eight Gates Escape Technique, the Scenic Gate.

But right now, Lin Kuang could only open the Fifth Gate. This meant he was currently no match for the heir to the Slash Path Sword.

"What’s his name? And how do you know his whereabouts?" Lin Kuang asked, frowning at the Nameless Old Man.

"As the old saying goes, a snake has its path and a rat has its burrow. Naturally, I have my own methods. I’m just warning you: do not let the heir to the Slash Path Sword defeat you. For you, defeat will most likely mean death!" the Nameless Old Man said, his expression still unnervingly calm.

"Why are you telling me this? What are you really after?" Lin Kuang asked in a grave tone filled with confusion.

"Why? Perhaps you will understand in the future. For now, at least, you are not qualified to know. I might tell you if you can kill the heir to the Slash Path Sword. Otherwise, all you can do is focus on improving your strength," the Nameless Old Man chuckled again.

Hearing this, Lin Kuang’s frown deepened. He truly couldn’t understand the Nameless Old Man’s intentions, and what was more, he knew he was no match for this elder. The situation left him feeling utterly helpless.

"Alright. Should I thank you for the warning?" Lin Kuang said, his head throbbing.

"There’s no need. By the next time we meet, you could very well be dead. After all, facing the heir to the Slash Path Sword with your current strength means your death is almost certain," the Nameless Old Man stated, that same faint smile on his lips.

"’Almost certain?’ That’s still just ’almost.’ My fate is not for others to control," Lin Kuang said coolly, his voice carrying a unique, natural arrogance.

"I hope so. You had better spend the next few days preparing for your grand battle with the heir to the Slash Path Sword. I should be there to witness the fight between you two. I hope you won’t disappoint me," the Nameless Old Man said, his gaze filled with a profound meaning.

Seeing this, Lin Kuang couldn’t help but frown again. He was becoming increasingly puzzled by the Nameless Old Man’s actions. The man was completely inscrutable.

"Well then, I’ll be on my way. We’ll meet again in a few days," the Nameless Old Man said. With that, he slowly turned and gradually disappeared into the crowd.

Watching his retreating figure, Lin Kuang’s brows furrowed even deeper.

"Lin Kuang, are you alright?" Mu Wan, who had been standing behind him, asked at that moment. Her voice was thick with a worry she couldn’t hide.

"Yeah, it’s nothing. Just be careful if you ever see that man in the future. I have a bad feeling about him," Lin Kuang said in a serious tone.

"Mm, I know," Mu Wan nodded obediently.

Lin Kuang let out a long breath, trying to calm himself. "Let’s continue enjoying the scenery. We’ll just pretend that never happened."

"Okay, let’s go," Mu Wan smiled and nodded. The two of them walked toward West Lake, hand in hand.

As they walked and chatted, their high spirits gradually returned.

Yet, a question lingered deep in Lin Kuang’s heart. Why did the Nameless Old Man give me the Nameless Sword? Why did he tell me all of this? He just couldn’t figure it out.

The two of them wandered from morning until afternoon and from the afternoon into the evening, stopping for snacks whenever they got hungry. Their time together was cheerful and carefree.

As night fell, West Lake became even more lively. Lantern-lit boats drifted across the water, casting beautiful, traditional reflections on the lake’s surface and lending it an ancient charm.

"What are those boats for?" Lin Kuang asked, his curiosity piqued by the sudden appearance of the vessels.

"Tsk, tsk. So there’s something you don’t know? You keep saying you’re hungry, right? Come on, I’ll show you," Mu Wan said with a mischievous smile, pulling Lin Kuang quickly toward the lakeside.

At that very moment, a group of men also started walking toward the lake, heading for the exact same spot as Lin Kuang and Mu Wan.
