Chapter 562 - 581: The Prince on a White Horse Realizes He Read Too Much Into It
In a beautiful, moving fairy tale, when the Princess is surrounded by a pack of villains, a prince on a white horse is supposed to charge in, sword in hand, and rescue her.
Huo Deng thought that right now, Huo Jia looked just like that white horse.
He strode straight toward the circle of people.
As he got closer, he could hear cheerful laughter coming from the crowd.
He heard the frivolous laughter of men, saying things like, "I like you."
...
’How tacky.’
’Saying you like someone on the very first day.’
An image flashed through Huo Jia’s mind: some of the foul young masters he’d seen in high society, sneering as they harassed young women.
The thought disgusted him, and he quickened his pace. He reached out, pushed through the circle with his long arm, and barked, "What do you think you’re doing?"
The words, "Don’t think you can get away with ganging up on a freshman just because you’re older," died on his lips. He looked up and saw that every single person in the circle was smiling.
Including his supposed victim, Jiang Qiuqiu.
Huo Jia: ?
He was baffled, unsure how to react.
Since he was silent, an upperclassman next to him asked, "We’re not doing anything. Can we help you with something?"
Having never been in such an awkward situation, Huo Jia was utterly speechless.
Fortunately, Huo Deng arrived a moment later. Huo Deng’s combat skills couldn’t compare to Huo Jia’s, but he was definitely a smooth talker.
He immediately smoothed things over, explaining the situation in just a few words while painting Huo Jia as a hero. "You see, you must be upperclassmen too, so you know how some of the older students in our department like to bully the new ones."
"My cousin saw you all gathered around these two young ladies and thought—"
"Oh, so that’s what happened," one of the guys said with a laugh. "This underclassman is quite the good Samaritan."
Huo Jia’s arrival made everyone realize how out of place it looked for such a large group to be crowded together in the lecture hall. They decided to all go chow down at the cafeteria and chat about the glorious life of a foodie.
What could be more romantic than a group of food-loving fans eating with their favorite food blogger! Nothing!
After a short discussion, the group decided to head to the cafeteria. Before they left, Jiang Qiuqiu thanked Huo for trying to help. The students with her took the opportunity to invite the two Huo cousins to join them, but an embarrassed Huo Jia declined.
Soon, the lecture hall emptied out, leaving only Huo Jia and Huo Deng standing in the same spot.
Huo Deng watched the freshman girl’s retreating figure and let out a soft whistle. "Looks like they already knew each other. Knowing that many upperclassmen right after starting school... That girl’s something else."
"Are they all from the same district? How could they know each other?"
"Probably not. I recognize a few of them—they’re third-year honor students from different places. As for how they know her... maybe from a Mecha Department group chat? You know how it is, a lot of students like to hang out and chat in the department forums before they even get to campus."
"They probably met in one of those chats and hit it off."
"Besides, she’s a girl—a super pretty and gentle one at that. Girls are a rare commodity in the Mecha Department."
"What red-blooded guy in there wouldn’t put her on a pedestal?"
He spoke casually, but Huo Jia’s expression remained unchanged. It was impossible to tell if he was even listening.

Meanwhile, the group wasn’t large enough to fill a large-model Hovercar. They had to wait at the station for a bit until a few students from other departments joined them, and only then did the robotic driver start the vehicle.
The Hovercar was insanely fast, and they reached the cafeteria in five or six minutes.
The happy diners charged toward the natural foods restaurant!
