Chapter 287 - 284: It’s Not Over Until I Say It’s Over
"Divorce?" Seth Quinn practically spat the word through gritted teeth. "I was the one who proposed this transaction. I was the one who decided to start this game. What right do you have to ask for a divorce? Let me tell you, if I don’t say it’s over, this transaction will never end!"
Clara Grant found it hard to understand. ’She took the initiative to ask for a divorce. Shouldn’t he be happy and readily agree? Why is he objecting so vehemently instead?’
’She never really understood him, and now she felt like she understood him even less!’
’Was it because she was the one who brought up divorce, and it wounded his massive male ego? Or... could it be that he actually wants to have it all?!’
Seeing that Clara Grant wasn’t speaking, Seth Quinn felt his words had been a bit harsh. He softened his voice, a hint of helplessness in his tone, and sighed lightly.
"How long are you going to be angry? All I did was lie that today was Poppy’s birthday and have Chase Childs forcibly bring you back! You can’t forgive me for such a small deception? Or is it because you just don’t want to see me at all?"
Clara Grant was so angry she almost laughed. ’He thinks *that’s* why I’m angry? In his mind, am I only worthy of being angry over such trivial matters?’
’And as for Autumn Shelby, not only has he failed to say a single word about her, but I don’t even have the right to be upset about it?’
Clara Grant let out a cold laugh and abruptly stood up. Her tone was icy as she said, "Forget it. I have nothing more to say! In any case, I’ve already proposed the divorce. You can do as you see fit! Just let me know whenever you decide to agree!"
After speaking, she didn’t spare Seth Quinn another glance or linger a moment longer, turning on her heel and walking toward the door.
"Where are you going?" Seth Quinn’s brows were tightly knit as he asked, but he didn’t step forward, seemingly having no intention of stopping her.
Clara Grant stopped but didn’t turn around. She said softly, "I have my own places to go, naturally!"
"You can go, but take this with you!" Seth Quinn said, walking to her side and holding his hand out in front of her. "Since you’ve already accepted it, it’s yours! Besides, I never take back something I’ve given."
Clara Grant glanced down and saw the brocade box containing the earrings. After hesitating for a couple of seconds, she reached out and took it.
’If he was so insistent on giving it to her, there was no need to be difficult about it.’
Only after Clara Grant had gone downstairs and the sound of the front door opening and closing was heard did Seth Quinn finally move. He then strode urgently out of the room and stood at the top of the stairs. Seeing the empty living room, he knew she was really gone. His dark eyes grew deeper, revealing a hint of loss and exhaustion.
’Women... he’d truly had intimate contact with very few. As a result, he wasn’t adept at deciphering a woman’s thoughts. Because he had never truly cared for a woman, he’d never had to guess what made them angry or what brought them joy. He’d never needed to understand what they liked or disliked.’
’Even when he and Autumn Shelby had reached the point of discussing marriage, he had never put any effort into considering her needs.’
’So, with Clara Grant saying nothing and just being relentlessly angry, he truly couldn’t figure out what she wanted.’
’He’d given her a gift. He believed he’d said what needed to be said and done what needed to be done.’
’And after all that effort, she had actually gone a step further and demanded a divorce!’
’Thinking about it now, it was understandable that Autumn Shelby—whom he had never treated with care—had run away a few days before their wedding because his long-term indifference had made her feel insecure.’
Seth Quinn was suddenly afraid that Clara Grant would leave for good, just like Autumn Shelby had. He wanted to run downstairs after her, but after taking just a few steps, he stopped again.
