Chapter 271 - 268: That Heart-Fluttering Feeling

Clara Grant was silent. She didn’t want to make things difficult for Chase Childs, but she also didn’t want to go back.

"How about this, ma’am? If you could just meet with me, it’ll be easier for me to report back to the President." After a moment, Chase Childs spoke up again.

Clara hesitated for a moment before agreeing.

She figured Assistant Childs was an honest person who wouldn’t try to pull any tricks.

But as it turned out, she was wrong.

When she stood before Chase Childs, she said, "Assistant Childs, you can go back. I’m not going back with you."

As she turned to leave, someone grabbed her arm tightly.

She turned back, looking at Chase Childs in disbelief. Although he seemed a bit nervous, he showed no intention of letting go.

"My apologies, ma’am, but you must come back with me today. The President said he has something important to discuss with you."

Clara scoffed inwardly. ’Something important? What could he possibly have that’s so important!’

She frowned slightly, her gaze falling to the hand gripping her arm. "Assistant Childs, let go!"

"Ma’am, please just come back with me," Chase Childs said, trying to push her into the car.

Clara struggled with all her might, but she was no match for him. Just as she was about to be shoved into the car, a woman’s sharp cry rang out from behind. "You brute! Let her go!"

The two, locked in a tug-of-war, both froze for a second. Before they could even turn around, Holly Summers had already rushed to their side. She gave Chase Childs a hard shove as he was trying to push Clara into the car, then yanked Clara behind her for protection.

’Just now, I saw Clara take a call and rush off. Good thing my curiosity got the best of me and I followed. Otherwise, wouldn’t she have been abducted?’

Chase Childs nearly lost his balance from the shove. ’This woman is surprisingly strong,’ he marveled. When he finally steadied himself and looked to see who his assailant was, he saw it was Holly Summers.

Holly Summers was an artist with Aegis, so of course he recognized her, though they weren’t well-acquainted.

While checking to see if Clara was hurt, Holly continued her tirade. "How dare you try to kidnap a woman in broad daylight! Who the hell do you think you are? You think driving a slightly fancy car makes you a somebody? You’re a monster, an animal..."

Before the words were even out of her mouth, she turned and saw Chase Childs’s dark expression. She was stunned. The look on her face changed in a flash, shifting from utter embarrassment and apology to a hearty laugh as she greeted him.

"A-Assistant Childs? It’s you! Oh my, I am so sorry. My eyesight is terrible; I didn’t realize it was you. Sorry, sorry, sorry! Oh, you’re here to take Clara back to the city, right? C’mon, c’mon, in you go, in you go."

As she spoke, she grabbed Clara and started helping Chase Childs bundle her into the car.

Clara had thought Holly Summers’s arrival was a timely rescue from her predicament. She hadn’t even had a chance to be happy about it before she saw Holly had already switched sides.

Her strength alone was no match for two people. In a matter of seconds, she was pushed into the car, and the door was slammed shut behind her.

"Assistant Childs, drive safe! I’m gonna head out," Holly Summers said, making a face before turning and scampering away.

When Chase Childs saw the wild series of expressions on her face earlier, he had already found her quite cute. Now, watching her figure scamper away, he found her more and more interesting and adorable.

’A girl so cute and kind, so upright and frank... they’re truly a rare find these days.’

For some reason, Chase Childs, who had always been awkward when it came to romance, felt his own heart suddenly start to race.
