Chapter 269 - 266: Why Did You Kick Me?
Clara Grant walked into the room just as Holly Summers was emerging from the bathroom. When Holly saw her, she immediately started teasing, "Done with your call to ’nobody’?"
As soon as the words were out, she noticed Clara’s flushed cheeks and couldn’t help but laugh. "Ooh, look how red you are. What sweet nothings did ’nobody’ whisper to get you so flustered?"
"Oh, shut up!" This time it was Clara’s turn to retort with a laugh.
Knowing she wouldn’t get anything out of her anyway, Holly Summers just laughed and went back into the bathroom to dry her hair. "Alright, alright, I’m going!"
Watching Holly head back into the bathroom, Clara thought for a moment, then pulled out her phone and called Poppy Vance.
At that moment, Poppy Vance was lying on the large bed, her expression a mix of passion and coyness, as Linden Jennings worked diligently on top of her.
Just as their passion was reaching a peak, Poppy Vance’s phone started ringing.
Poppy froze for a moment and reached for her phone, but Linden Jennings stopped her. "Don’t answer it."
He was getting annoyed. A moment ago, his phone had been ringing off the hook, and now it was Poppy’s turn.
’Damn it, won’t these people let a young couple have a moment to themselves?’
"What are you doing?" Poppy panted, her body still moving with the man’s rhythm, as she turned her head to look at the phone on the nightstand.
The moment she glimpsed the name on the screen, she immediately pushed against his chest, trying to shove him off.
"I didn’t answer my calls, so you can’t either—" Before Linden could finish, the woman beneath him suddenly shoved him aside. In his moment of stunned surprise, Poppy had already propped herself up and snatched the phone.
Linden Jennings glanced at her phone. When he saw the name "Clara" on the screen, he cursed inwardly, ’Holy shit!’
He hadn’t answered his phone when it rang earlier, but he’d glanced at the screen and seen it was Seth Quinn.
First Seth Quinn calling him, and now Clara Grant calling Poppy.
’Did that couple plan this?’
’Just because they aren’t together, they decide to harass me and Poppy in the middle of the night!’
Poppy answered the call. She beamed as she chirped, "Clara!" then immediately turned to shoot a harsh glare at Linden, who was still sprawled over her legs, silently telling him to get off.
Silently grumbling about the vast difference in how Poppy treated him versus how she treated Clara, Linden resignedly rolled off her and onto the other side of the bed.
Poppy’s "Clara!" had sounded a bit breathless, but Clara didn’t think much of it and just asked curiously, "Poppy, what are you up to?"
"Oh, just getting some exercise in," Poppy replied casually.
But she had barely finished speaking when Linden suddenly leaned in close, his voice full of mock grievance as he exposed her lie. "Bed-xercise!"
He was right next to the phone, and his voice wasn’t quiet. Clara heard him loud and clear on the other end. Her face instantly turned as red as an apple, and for a moment, she was at a loss for words.
Poppy, however, just giggled and gave Linden a playful kick before turning her attention back to the phone. "Clara, just ignore him. What’s up? Did you need something?"
Feeling rejected, Linden retreated to his side of the bed and pulled out his phone. He opened his call log, wondering if he should call Seth Quinn back. Just as the thought crossed his mind, his phone rang. He answered it immediately.
Knowing she had interrupted them, Clara decided to get straight to the point so they could get back to their... "business."
"Poppy, tomorrow’s your birthday, right?"
"My birthday? No, it’s not... Ow! Linden, why did you kick me?"
Linden had answered the phone, ready to complain, but Seth Quinn spoke first. "Linden, if Clara calls Poppy, you have to make sure Poppy agrees that tomorrow is her birthday!"
Before he even had a chance to ask why, he heard Poppy denying that tomorrow was her "birthday." In a panic, he’d kicked her.
