Chapter 377 - 370: Be Happy for Me, Because I Have Found My Own Happiness
"Are you sure the scars on your arm are from depression? Are you sure *I’m* the one who caused it?" His voice was steady and calm, betraying no hint of doubt.
Seth Quinn’s words took everyone by surprise, including Clara Grant.
Instinctively, she couldn’t help but look up at him.
But his expression was too serene; she couldn’t read any emotion from it.
’But his words hinted at something... Was he doubting what Autumn Shelby had said?’
Somehow, a sliver of hope bloomed in Clara Grant’s heart. She actually hoped that Autumn Shelby was lying. That way, Seth Quinn wouldn’t have to feel guilty toward her, and her own relationship wouldn’t have to come to a sudden end, would it?
Even though she felt she shouldn’t be thinking such things, she just couldn’t help it.
So she instinctively glanced at Autumn Shelby, tensely and hopefully awaiting her answer.
Autumn Shelby, however, was perfectly composed. A poignant smile appeared on her tear-streaked face. "Seth, you really don’t believe me? My medical records and the entire treatment process are on file in the U.S.A. You can go and check for yourself."
As she spoke, as if utterly heartbroken, another tear fell from her large, glistening eyes. "My illness is cured now, so I can finally come back to see you openly. But now, you’re about to marry another woman.
"But even though that breaks my heart, I can accept it. After all, I’m happy for you if you’ve found happiness. The most devastating part is that you actually don’t believe me!"
Perhaps Autumn Shelby’s act was too convincing, because even Sienna Hale shot her son a glare and spoke up for her. "Seth, what are you saying? Would Autumn lie about something like this? Regardless, those scars on her body are real."
When Clara Grant heard Autumn Shelby say, "You can go and check for yourself," any last shred of hope in her heart was extinguished. Now, hearing Sienna Hale defend Autumn so fiercely, she felt she really should leave.
Otherwise, she couldn’t shake the feeling that she was the outsider, while Autumn Shelby was the Quinn Family’s daughter-in-law—Seth Quinn’s wife. *They* were the real family!
But the moment she stirred, Seth Quinn, as if knowing exactly what she intended, reached out and grabbed her hand.
His grip was firm, allowing no escape.
Clara Grant’s carefully constructed façade of strength nearly crumbled at his small gesture. Tears instantly flooded her eyes, and she could only bite her lip and lower her gaze to hide her emotions.
The "interaction" between the others just now had made her feel that coming to meet his parents today was a complete joke. She felt as if she were stranded alone on a mountaintop, freezing and utterly helpless.
But when Seth Quinn suddenly took her hand, she instantly felt that she had an anchor.
Seth Quinn didn’t look at her, but he conveyed his support through their clasped hands, giving her strength.
Sensing that she wasn’t pulling away, Seth Quinn turned his gaze back to Autumn Shelby. His tone was calm as he said, "So, be happy for me, because I’ve found my happiness. Also, regardless of your reasons, coming here on a day like today—whether to reminisce about our past or to recount the suffering you’ve endured—is rather inappropriate."
Although he never explicitly told her to leave, the implication was clear: it was time for her to go.
