Aaron Rodgers appears very committed to New York Jets
The 18-year veteran quarterback has a new home. Aaron Rodgers has said all the right things since becoming a member of the New York Jets.
There is a lot of anticipation regarding the teams with the longest current playoff drought in the National Football League.
The last time the New York Jets reached the postseason was in 2010. The team finished 11-5 under head coach Rex Ryan. The Green and White came up with playoff wins at Indianapolis and at New England before falling to the Steelers at Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship Game.
Ironically, the Green Bay Packers came up with some road magic of their own. A 10-6 finish relegated them to wild card status. Thanks to quarterback Aaron Rodgers and an opportunistic defense, Mike McCarthy’s club won at Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Chicago, respectively, to reach Super Bowl XLV. The Pack came away with an exciting 31-25 win over the Steelers and Rodgers earned game MVP honors.
Of course, that was a long time ago for both the veteran signal-caller and the Jets. Rodgers is now a member of the Green and White and hopes to lead the club back to the postseason. It appears any questions regarding just how committed the four-time NFL MVP is to this franchise were answered a bit on Friday.
During an interview with ESPN New York (98.7 FM), Rodgers talked about the immediate future and perhaps beyond (via ESPN’s Rich Cimini). “The Jets gave up a lot for me, so to just play one year would be a disservice,” he explained on the DiPietro & Rothenberg Show. “Now if that one year turns out to be a magical year, who knows? It’s more than that. It’s how my body feels, and I’ve made some changes this offseason with some training and diet.
“When you have so many great players on rookie deals, it’s pretty exciting, knowing you can do something. “You’ve got a good window. It’s not just a one-year thing where you can be competitive, which is fun.”
Things can change quickly in the NFL and in sports in general. Rodgers turns 40 on December 2 and who knows what toll a 19th season will take. At least for now, he sounded pretty optimistic. “The way I feel now, I think I could play a number of years.”
Interesting would be an understatement when it comes to Robert Saleh’s new-look team.
